  • Does anyone know any Japanese-style lunchbox recipes?

Posted by admin on July 30th, 2011 and filed under japanese recipes | 3 Comments »

I got a Japanese lunchbox ((a.k.a. bento)) and I was looking for some recipes that were good and that should try. It would be best if they were inexpensive and simple.

Most romantic Japanese/Chinese restaurant in New York City to propose?

Posted by admin on July 26th, 2011 and filed under japanese restaurant | 3 Comments »

I’ve decided to do a custom made fortune cookie proposal. This could only work if we dine at a Chinese or Japanese restaurant. Since we both love Japanese and Chinese food, I figured this would be perfect. Does anyone know of any romantic, upscale Japanese or Chinese restaurant in the city? Price is not an issue.

You should go to this restaurant a couple of blocks away from the Empire State Building. It’s called Evergreen Shanghai Restaurant and the address is:10 E 38th St (between 5th Ave & Madison Ave)
New York, NY 10016. It’s a very stylish restaurant with modern furnishings.

What is the name of the Green Peppers that are served in Japanese Restaurants?

Posted by admin on July 17th, 2011 and filed under japanese restaurants | 4 Comments »

I had some green peppers from a Japanese Restaurant that were roasted with olive oil and sprinkled with Bonito Flakes that were really delicious. It is a light green pepper a little larger than a Jalapeno but with thinner outer skin and not very spicy but with good flavor.. It was served as an accompaniment to Sushi and Baked scallops. Thanks for any info.

It sounds like you are talking about the shishito pepper.

Any EASY chinese/japanese recipes to make at home with regular household ingrediants?

Posted by admin on July 7th, 2011 and filed under japanese recipes | 5 Comments »

Please only list Appetizers, something similar to dumplings or potstickers please!

Tempura is really easy to pull off with the most common of household ingredients! People often assume that tempura is difficult and expensive to prepare, but it’s really not. It doesn’t need to be shrimp, most vegetables and even chicken breast strips can be used. Here’s how I like to do it:

    1/2 cup flour
    1/2 cup cornstarch
    1 teaspoon baking soda
    1 teaspoon baking powder
    1 teaspoon sugar
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1 egg
    2/3 cup ice water
    Oil for deep frying
Your choice of dippers; shrimp, scallops, chunky-cut chicken and vegetables are good.

    Sift together the dry ingredients.

Beat egg slightly and mix with the water and a few drops of the food coloring, if desired.

Add the dry ingredients. Stir only until mixed; mixture will be slightly lumpy.

Dip shrimp, chunky-cut chicken and vegetables, etc. into the batter and deep fry until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.

Serve, if desired, with any dipping sauce.
