Why are there so many Japanese restaurants popping up now?

There used to be more Chinese restaurants, but now the gap is being filled.

Because they’re good….but they’re usually run by Chinese. Most of the food are food that Japanese don’t eat everyday. Japanese American restaurant is different from real Japanese restaurant.

I’m looking for a nice place in DC to take my date to eat this weekend and I figured a nice Japanese restaurant would do. But the kind where your table is the grill and they cook it right in front of you.

Does anyone know of a reputable place in Washington D.C?

Most people think Japanese food is healthy because of its freshness. But I am very concerned of restaurants using MSGs in their food nowadays.
Can anyone who runs a Japanese restaurant tell the truth?

I want to go to an authentic japanese restaurant, one that serves other things besides sushi and teriyaki. Maybe one that has dangos, nikuman, taiyaki or kimchi (is this korean or japanese?). I don’t know much about japanese food but I would really love to try something new.

Is there a list of different types of restaurents in english that I
could browse through in the yokohama/tokyo area? I find that it is hard
to find a specific restaurant and I’m normally just walking around and
randomly choosing one.

How do they fix fried bananas at Japanese Restaurants?

I mean, I know they fry them…but is there a special sauce they use to give them an extra sweet taste?
They are fresh, and no batter is used. Its just a syrup type solution.

They coat them in Tempura breading then deep fry them. The bananas become slightly sweeter when cooked. I’ve never seen any sauce, except chocolate, added.

Its the sauce that you eat with your fried rice.

I think you’re referring to the spicy sauce used in maki style sushi like Spicy salmon. It’s very simple…a mixture of japanese Mayonnaise (use regular if you can’t find it at an asian market or gourmet store) and sriracha chili sauce…also found in asian markets. You mix it to taste depending on how hot you like it.
