I usually do if the phone person & the person that brings me the food is kind & efficient……….. now if I order sushi I always tip the sushi chef a few bucks in his tip jar

If you start going to the same place multiple times …. they will start to know you & give you top top notch service & even Free items…. like I get extra pieces of sashimi or maki roll in my bag — Merry christmas to me.

As somebody who has worked in a restaurant before, I can tell you that the biggest source of income usually comes from tips. You don’t HAVE to tip anybody anything (unless it’s automatically tacked onto the bill, which is to protect the restaurant from cheap customers), but it is considered a courtesy to leave a gratuity for anyone who is performing a special service.

Restaurant food servers, hosts, and even chefs have such irregular hours and schedules, and often the restaurant will under-cut minimum wage (meaning they make less than minimum wage) because they assume you will be able to make up the difference in tips. Take-out is a little different, and while restaurants offer this option to increase their business, the people who prepare the food usually don’t like it because they don’t get tipped. You generally should offer something, even if it’s only a couple of dollars. Tip the absolute minimum average percentage or even a little less. This should be done especially if the service is friendly, prompt, and accurate. Good tipping lets them know they’re doing something correct, and they’ll continue to do it in the future. If you’re a regular customer and you treat them well, as a general rule they will treat you the same.
